Turning this wonderful mixture of spices and tea into chai tea that you can enjoy takes a bit of time, but it’s completely worth it when you put that warm goodness to your lips.
Use the very best ingredients
Having the highest quality ingredients that you can find is the best way to make sure that your latte will come out the best that it possibly can.
If you can, you will want to freshly grind many of these spices, but if that’s not an option, you can simply get them in powder form.
For the spices,
you’ll need at least an inch of ginger that will be sliced into coins,
a cinnamon stick,
1 teaspoon of finely ground black pepper,
2 teaspoons of clove,
and 2 teaspoons of cardamom.
Get a high quality black tea and set aside 3 bags of it, a cup of milk, and a ¼ cup of brown sugar.
Making the Tea Base
In order to make the latte, the tea has to be particularly strong. This is done by steeping the tea in less water than the tea usually requires to be made normally.
Boil 1 ½ cups of water and steep the tea until the water turn very dark, then place the liquid back on the stove and heat until it begins to simmer lightly.
This would be a good time to add the sugar. Stir it for a minute or two to make sure that the sugar completely dissolves.
Now that the sugar has dissolved into the liquid and the tea is now simmering, you can add the spices, stirring lightly to get full coverage and mix it in properly. After about 3 minutes, add the milk and whisk it for about 2 -3 minutes and remove the tea from heat.
Pour the tea into separate cups, and now you have your very own chai tea and recipe that you can come back to anytime you please.
